Visitors to the EGC are very lucky this year since they will be able to visit the Documenta in the city of Kassel at the same time as the congress. Documenta is a reputable exhibition of contemporary art and a mainstay for German culture. It was founded in 1955 and takes place every five years in Kassel.
The exhibit attempts to bridge cultural borders, so there is also a simultaneous Documenta exhibit in Athens, Greece, this year. One of the main themes will be “learning from Athens”. Among the participants will be Iraqi artist Hiwa K and Argentinian artist Marta Minujín. Apart from the numerous contemporary works on display, you will also find many permanent installations by Joseph Beuys, Horst H. Baumann, Jonathan Borofsky and lots more. Visit the Documenta homepage for more information!
This year Documenta will take place between June 10th and September 17th so EGC visitors can plan their trip accordingly. You can reach Kassel from Oberhof by train. The ride takes approximately three hours.
